November 12th - 16th ILTTA Tournament Guatemala 2019!

Eyes closed, one of the best bill-fishing experiences in this world we live in. Numbers don’t lie. And to top that of, the service from the staff at their lodge  Billfish Inn -Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures!, exquisite food (those ribs, those tacos ohhh boy!!!) and great facilities 7 minutes from the marina, really second to none. An Outstanding operation. Capt Brad Philipps and Cindy Philipps are both top guns in their games!!!! Can’t wait to be back!!!!! Their boat 'The Decisive' and the Crew, well we don’t even need to talk about world record breaker Gamefisherman....

60TH BIRTHDAY PARTY - Oct 16th - 23rd, 2018

I have been visiting Guatemala since 2004 and have , except for my first time, always fished with Brad and been hosted by Cindy. My first time fishing in Guatemala before I met Brad , was not a roaring success as in those days the options to stay in and around the port were not so numerous. All that changed when I started fishing with Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures. The boat, crew and the lodgings and arrangements are the best in Guatemala , just look at the web page!! Guatemala has a FANTASTIC fishery that all the captains work tirelessly to protect, that is why it is the best . Fishing is fishing as they say , and some days are better than others. In Guatemala I have had some unbelievable days and even a bad one has produced fish. I love the place so much I decided to take my family there for my 60th birthday . I wanted a Marlin and Brad and his team worked tirelessly to produce one for me , a memorable experience. My third in those waters. Cant count the number of sail fish , but it is well in the hundreds and Cindy even organised a Rooster Fish trip once for me and some mates ...they are there to make the holiday you want. Its not just about the people though , its about the experience . Brad runs a great boat and has a great team , but Cindy looks after the guests . You feel special, pampered and the Billfish Inn and the house in Antigua, are just fantastic. Over the years and many trips I have introduced many people to the best fishing spot in the world for Billfish. Many have gone back. It is truly an experience not to have on your bucket list and one you will not forget. One thing , as a result of the time I have spent is the friendship me and my family have built with Brad , Cindy and their lovely kids . It is not just about the boat, the captain or the places you stay ...it is how you are welcomed. It is my home away from home !!! I have watched them from more or less when they started to where they are now ..you need to be good as a team , to be the best Captain there year after year. The weather and the welcome is warm , the fishing is red hot ...when are you going?

Hollie, Scott & Parker Anderson + Jarret Kamppi had an awesome time here at Brad-Cindy's lovely home. William, Maria, the chef, and the house keeper all catered to our EVERY need So nice! The food was duper delicious! Bonus was dinner with Cindy, Lyndsey and Darren.

We all caught our first sailfish! Just not as many as anticipated but oh well. We missed Brad as our captain because of bad foot, poor Brad. We caught 3 mani, had yummy carpaccio - fresh! 11 Sailfish.

The trip was a real pleasure.  Great to see you.  And thank you for putting it all together.

The final day fishing in Guatemala was the best so far. We released another 63 sails. Attached is a photo of one of the many. That gives us 162 sailfish and one blue marlin (estimated at 350 pounds) released over this four day trip! I remember when I dreamed of catching one billfish. What a trip to catch so many! That is around 15,000 pounds of billfish! Thank you Brad Philipps and Cindy Philipps for another great trip!

April 19, 20, 21, 2015 - Marc Winchester

Cindy and Brad-

Apologies that is has taken me a month to get back in touch to say thank you for your fantastic hospitality and another outstanding trip.

You do a truly amazing job of not only showing complete novices how to catch trophy fish but also providing a first class holiday and respite from work.

It's the little touches that distinguish you: meeting guests at the front door upon their return; providing a cold drink and appetizer when they arrive; outstanding food; asking and providing guests the beverage of their choice; drivers who handle luggage and share local knowledge; all really, really great. Thank you.

I have been in a high touch service industry for 30 years and really appreciate what it takes to make people feel welcome and special. No one does it better than Guatemala Billfishing Adventures.

Thank you again and best regards-

Marc Winchester

I cannot begin to thank you enough for the FANTASTIC fishing experience you provided for me and my 5 grandsons ages 12 - 20.
I did not think anything could exceed the trip I had with you last year when we released 53 sailfish over 3 days.  But, you did it.  We released 66 sailfish over the same time period which included 36 sailfish on our second day.  My 12 year old Elliot, caught the first sailfish on the first day and it was bigger than he was. The boys were all in seventh heaven.  You and your great crew taught them well.
On the hospitality side of things 'The Billfish Inn' was a great accommodation for us. It was only exceeded by the extraordinary food preparation. You are family people, family oriented and made me and my family feel right at home.

As you know I am a life long fisherman and have fished for Sailfish all over Central America, Mexico, Florida, Hawaii and Australia.

You provide the best Sailfishing and accommodations in the world.

Jan 22 - Guatemala Bill Fishing best.

We've been here numerous times before, but this was one of our best trips. Totally smooth sailing. The weather was beautiful and the fish were hungry. We hit the sails and the yellow fin hard. I also caught a Marlin and a Dorado. And we also encountered the huge and spectacular school of spinner dolphin. The crew, Johnny and Kennedy, were absolutely professional as always. Back at the house house, the staff was attentive and the food was consistently excellent. The high point was a magnificent sushi dinner featuring fish we had caught and prepared three ways. A Meal to remember Thanks Brad and Cindy and Everyone else!

The Fuego volcano kept us entertained for many hours throwing up bright red lava into the sky and then we watched it pour down the side of the volcano - followed minutes later by the sound of the eruption. We stayed up for hours watching - not wanting to miss a moment. Certainly seemed like a "once in a lifetime" type of experience. And topped of another perfect stay at our favorite destination in Antigua Guatemala.

Until next time ....Jocelyn and Francois Falls  SA

Combining a Billfishing trip with the best and 'La Casa Philipps, Antigua' - Sumpango Oct 31st, 2014

Kristy and I flew down to Guatemala to start of the fishing season and check out the Halloween tradition flying 20 foot kites called " Dia de los muertos". Needless to say it was wild! Then off to fishing on the DECISIVE and a more golf! That all sounds great but my favorite relaxation trick is spending a few nights at 'La Casa Philipps' ....matter of fact I bought the same mattress when I got back to Florida ....really! In all seriousness the food, fishing and company just keeps getting better! Keep up the good work and sorry for any broken items the kids might have done after my early Christmas gift giving of flying Batman, kites, talking toy birds and electric toy cars (funny stuff). See you in December to do it again.

Cheers to you-

Scott and Kristy Lund

Florida

It was a great pleasure to host longtime long friends Scott & Kristy Lund this past weekend. After a quick flight from Florida they arrived at our front door, with the help of our chauffeur Santiago, where we promptly supplied them with cold drinks and warm smiles. They spent the evening in our Boutique Hotel, La Casa Philipps – which is situated in Antigua, an hour away from the coast – enjoying everything The Old City has to offer as well as a lovely night out with some fine dinning.

The next day was 'Día de los Muertos' which saw us heading of to a remote town high in the mountains where we took part in Sumpango 2014. A gargantuan kite festival in honour of the dead. The locals build and elaborately decorate kites up to 20m. We saw a 8 meter kite take flight in the middle of a packed crowd. After consuming color after color and great local music we headed back to Antigua for a late lunch.

On Sunday; Scott, Kristy, Brad and his son Darren had a lovely breakfast at our hotel in preparation for the day's fishing. They headed to the coast at 7am and were on the water by 8am. The bite was quite close to the coast, starting their day at a mere 6 miles. The 'Decisive' raised 16 sailfish keeping everyone busy. The fish were a little lazy on the fly but Scott still managed to hook and land 4 Sailfish on fly and an excited little Darren released another on conventional tackle.

After the great day fishing they headed to the Billfish Inn were more cold drinks and snacks awaited their arrival in our wondrously refreshing pool. Our Head Chef Isabel proceeded to end the weekend off with some of the best steak this side of Texas accompanied by a secret sauce which prompted Scott to say “you should bottle and sell this”.

On Monday the Lund's were almost on their way home but not before a few holes of golf at the Pete Dye 'La Reunion Golf Resort' on the way up to the airport.

It is always our pleasure to welcome these two exceptional people and to share our time and laughter with them. We can't wait to have them back for more of the same.

"Brad & Cindy,

Thank you once again for a great trip. I keep reflecting on it, and I find it hard to completely take in. Sixty-seven sails plus the big marlin on the 20 pound tackle was an amazing trip for me. I have had so many prior fishing trips that just do not compare; they were not “in the same league”. And sharing the experience with the entire family, the sightseeing in Antigua and Lake Atitlan, your amazing new boutique hotel etc, were all “icing on the cake”. It was truly a wonderful trip.

Every wish was catered too and we felt so comfortable and at home. We also enjoyed meeting Darren & Lyndsey and Rigby too! The fishing was certainly more than any of us expected, catching enormous (and delicious!!) Dorado and releasing almost 50 sailfish in 2 days is incomprehensible! We looked forward to tomorrow's Adventure and returning to Guatemala to visit and fish with you all again!

Even though I have been back for 4 days I am still on  a high from my magnificent 3 days of fishing on the Decisive.

As you know I am about to become 79 years young in May and I have been fishing since my father first took me in 1939.

When I was a teenager I went on my first  sailfishing trip in the Gulfstream off of Miami. As an adult I have gone on at least one "major" fishing trip per year including billfishing trips in Australia (4), Costa Rica (4), Panama (3), Cabo San Lucas, Yucatan, the Florida Keys (where my Dad had a small fishing boat) and Venezuela. My experience on the Decisive was the finest sailfishing experience that I have ever had.

I was impressed on every level: Most sailfish caught per day each day, best sailfishing Captain and best trained mates, beautifully maintained boat and fishing gear. Two of my grammar school friends joined me. Both were inexperienced. Both had a more magnificent experience than I did.  They were a little anxious before the beginning of the trip. You and your mates guided  them, they loved it, they were successful and now they want to return next season. Your land facilities are equally well maintained, beautiful and excellent food.  Thank you.

Feb 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 2014 - Aboard 'Decisive' with Capt. Brad Philipps

We just returned from our fourth successful trip to Guatemala in search of some willing sail fish that will eagerly eat a fly.  Aboard the "Decisive"  a 40' Gamefisher under Captain Brad Philipps and his trusty crew of Kennedy and John, we had many shots at teased up sails will over 100 pounds again and again.  Some of your readers may already be familiar with Brad as he has won the Billfish Captain of the Year for the past 12 years with over 25,000 bill fish caught and released for his clients.  Once in charge of the Fins and Feathers lodge on the Pacific coast of Guatemala, Brad and his lovely wife, Cindy, now cater to small groups of eager anglers each season who enjoy their lovely home complete with swimming pool and A/C equipped guest rooms, informal exceptional dining, and a very attentive staff.  Guests arrive at the new airport in Guatemala City and are picked up by van and transported about 90 minutes to the coast by an english speaking driver that supplies cool beverages en route.  Brad and his crew are experts at raising and teasing bill fish up to easy casting range with the fly tackle supplied on the boat.  Conventional tackle is also used although it really becomes too easy for most dedicated fly anglers.  This season they have seen an increase in striped marlin along with the occasional blue marlin and lots and lots of sails.  For fly anglers wishing to add a pacific sail fish and perhaps a marlin to their bucket list,  The Decisive team would be hard to beat.  Their website is www.guatbilladv.com.  The quaint town of Antiqua is an often requested add on to the fishing trip and is well worth a day or two sight seeing within sight of smoking volcanoes.

Brad,

Your operation, in every respect, is simply spectacular. I honestly do not think there is any room for improvement. You have really created something very special. More than anything I enjoyed your mastery of the boat, crew and angler when the quarry came to the dance. Best I've ever seen.

Best to you,

Another great trip to Guatemala and we are bringing back some great memories of historic Antigua and the beautiful Pacific Ocean aboard the Decisive.  As you know I had several guests that had never been on the sea and once again Brad showed off the best sailfishing and deep sea fishing in the world, 42 sails, 7 yellowfin tuna and 2 dorado in just two days of fishing!  Your wonderful hospitality and the luxurious accommodations allowed me to entertain our company president and business guests in a perfect atmosphere.  Again, many thanks and I look forward to seeing you and your entire family as soon as possible.

Day 1, was a show start thanks to my sinus infection.  But Day 2 & 3 were spectacular successes, with so many sails hitting that it took Johnny 2 hours to make lunch.  And Day 3: more sails and a blue marlin - say no more.  Both in land and in sea, the staff was as always excellent - helpful, attentive and going way beyond the call of duty.  Finally, what is really important:  the food.  Thank you, Cindy and the cook, for that delicious "comida chapina!!  The tamales, mole, beans - all were delicious - .

Thank you again for you hospitality, and I could not have been happier going from never having caught a sailfish, to catching 22 in two days was incredible, as were the accommodations and all the fresh food and drinks, etc. Fishing with Brad and the mates, especially Kennedy was also a real treat, and he clearly seemed to enjoy teaching Teo and myself the ropes to the point where we barely needed his assistance at the end (Altough I think he can catch them in his sleep, and even when they are not bighting that hot). Also, landing sails on my brother's spinning gear and Capt. Brad's brand-new Alutecnos rod that perfectly matched the Stella was such a treat for Jon and myself. Please feel free to use this in your website, although I can see why you really do not need to advertise. It is not a matter of IF I will be back, but WHEN.

From Rich's first blue marlin; to celebrating Bill's retirement; to spending some quality bonding time with my Dad; to saving a sea turtle caught in a blue-nylon long-line; and relaxing back at the inn with appetizers, a massage, and great gourmet food every night, nothing can really top a trip to Guatemala! There are definitely days back in NY when I think about being barefoot on the Decisive fishing all day and then making the run back to dock with the afternoon sun hitting the Pacific and a cerveza in hand... These 3 Texans set out for fishing this morning and my husband and sister-in-law had gone deep sea fishing but I never had. I found out they are much better at this than I am. The experience was an "unforgetable" one thanks to Cindy and Brad. They make a great "Deicisive" team each blessed with grace, knowlede and the ability to make you feel "pampered".

The gourmet meals and the lodging was superb. I hope we can come back for "more of the same".

Jan 10 - 14th, 2010 - Aboard DECISIVE - FLY FISHING CHALLENGE!
This is my 14th trip to the Billfish Inn and all continues to be great. Despite all the visits Brad and Cindy continue to come up with new ways to have fun. This time, fishing with the neighbor, Dr. Dog, was too much fun to explain. We fished the Jake Jordan Fly Challenge, won big and lost pounds laughing every day. Brad led the way with a great strategy, Kennedy was awesome on the teasing, as usual, and Johnny was exceptional in helping with the fly releases.

If you want to come to Guatemala and fish with the best, enjoy incredible food and hospitality you need to be booking the Billfish Inn and The Decisive Team..

Hello Cindy and Brad,
I just wanted to thank you both for such a nice trip. After 20 years of sea sickness I was ready to give up on deep sea fishing but, thanks to Brads superb ability with the boat, a short boat ride to the fish and non stop action catching fish (5 on at the same time is hard to beat) we have reestablished my spirit for fishing, I forgot how much fun it could be.
Thanks to Cindy for taking such good care of me on shore. I love that you cater to every persons dietary needs everything was 5 star quality. See you soon,

We came here to relax and leave the stress of the economy behind. Catching the biggest fish of the season to end the season was Fantastic!

Brad & Cindy,
Every trip gets better, and brings additional excitement. Having caught hundreds of sailfish on the DECISIVE, I asked Kennedy and Brad when the best Blue Marlin fishing was. Both of them responded with "MAY". My last trip supported their responses. John Wendkos, Darren Terzi and myself enjoyed 4 great days of Blue Marlin fishing over Memorial Day. We raised between 2 and 6 Blue Marlin per day. Many of them did not eat, but we caught several spectacular fish. Darren topped off our trip with a 600 lb. fish on 30 lb. test line. We also enjoyed catching 20 to 25 Sailfish as our by-catch. Ha Ha.
Coming home from a great day of fishing with the DECISIVE team gets even better when arriving at the Billfish Inn. We are always greeted with a refreshing drink, but now we get to share time with Mr. Darren Philipps. What a treat.
I hope your family has a great summer in Africa. Lori and I will see you in December.
Best regards,

Words cannot describe Easter weekend in Guatemala. It is hard too imagine an entire country shutting down for three days to celebrate religion, life and happiness. It is hard to imagine that in just three days you can experience world class fishing, world class golfing and country club amenities and experience the culture and flavor of Guatemala in the historic town of Antigua. So after a day at sea, come indulge in the quaint restaurants of Antigua and experience the processions and flower carpets that you will not forget.

Brad and Cindy,

I had a wonderful time fishing here in Guatemala. I learned to fish sailfish, I am glad I caught my first Marlin. I fished 29 sailfish, 3 Dorados and my first Marlin. My dad reserved to come here 2 years ago and here we are having a good time. I went fishing on the Decisive and I like a lot where we stayed. I went fishing with my dad and a friend of my dad and the crew of the Decisive. My dad sayed we could come next year so I was thrilled to come back. The food was excellent and hope that when I come back next year, the food will be as good as this time.

Cindy and Brad,

Thanks so much for your warm hospitality and attention to detail throughout our visit to Guatemala and the Billfish Inn!
You and your team made this a one-of-a-kind experience for the four of us and provided a perfect back drop for our second USA vs. RSA International Billfish Test.
While the U.S. team was obviously disappointed by our 20-18 loss to the South Africans, the fact that we caught 38 sailfish in three days as a group makes Guatemala hard to match for tournament excitement.
It was amazing how our numbers increased daily from five the first day, to 12 the second to 21 on the final day. The fact that our very last bite brought up four fish at once with two coming to the leader will always stick in my mind as the ultimate finale.
I can’t say enough about the quality of the service, food and friendship that you showed our group. While we were obviously disappointed that Brad and The Decisive were already booked during our visit, Captain Eddie and his crew aboard The Circle Hook proved themselves world class and showed us a great time on the water.
We can’t wait to come back and see you again! This is definitely the spot to bring the boys and teach them the art of dropping back!

Cheers,

I am not sure what was better, the fishing or the hospitality. If you go to Guatemala for the world-class billfish, I can tell you that it lives up to its reputation and then some. Eddie,

Thanks you so much for the fishing report, we enjoyed and have shared with all our friends.

We would like to express our gratitude and apreciation to you and your crew for providing us with a very memorable fishing experience during our first trip to Guatemala. Our three day trip aboard /Circle Hook/ was without a doubt the most enjoyable sport-fishing we have had to date. You and mates Jose and Armando could not have worked any harder or have been any more professional than all the crews we’ve had the pleasure fishing with. Your vast knowledge of the area and fishing skills were apparent as was your great personality. The snacks and local fare lunches Armando prepared daily were outstanding and show
your team’s commitment to providing an outstanding fishing experience.

With a (3) day total of (14) Sails, (5) Blue Marlin, (1) Dorado, and memories to share forever; what more could one ask for. Fishing with you aboard /Circle Hook/ should be on everyone’s itinerary when
visiting Guatemala; I know it will be for us!

"Cindy & Brad, It is hard to believe, but our second trip to the Billfish Inn was even better then the first. The fishing and lodging were great as usual. Lori was so excited to hook her own billfish. The crew of the DESIVE were patient, and showed her the correct way to drop back. After she had caught several alone, we enjoyed catching a double off the teasers together. Spending the last evening in Antigua was a true delight. We are certainly looking forward to our return in May. Give our best to your staff and crew members. This was not a fishing trip. Instead it was a real vacation, with wonderful fishing thrown in".

Hi Cindy,
Thanks again for a great trip to Guatemala. We enjoyed the visit to Antigua AND the lunch with you & Brad at the new country club. Next year we'll try to schedule a round of golf also.
Even though the infamous "Green Water" gave us a slow start to the fishing, we finished with a bang and 21 sails on the last day. We really enjoyed seeing the large pod(?) of spinner dolphins the first two days. It must have covered several acres of ocean and was just alive with spinners jumping all over. Plus Carol caught that nice yellowfin tuna from that pod of spinners.
Nice to see the "little man" Darren with the great smile, and the rest of the crew. Also good to see La Mas Fria is holding up well!!!

Since I fish the Decisive everytime I go to Guatemala I have reached a sixth sense of the feel of the hunt of those great pacific fish...the dorado....hahaha...but this time it was a sailfish tournament....so for 3 days I was amazed by the acrobatics and speed of the sailfish...CaptBrads willingness to help us focus and find the "honey hole " is rarely seen in these days of sportsfishing...we had an awesome 3 days as a team(captBrad,Steve C. and Harvey S.,Kennedy and Danilo)...with the energy put into the tournament of that magnitude you can't fail...yes...we won...in more ways the one....so heres to Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures....and many more days on the Decisive!!!

TEAM DECISIVE WINS - 2009 Guatemalan “No Sancocho Billfish Tournament”

Speaking for myself and the stellar tournament team of Steve Cothron, Scott Lund, and Most Certainly our driving force on the Flybridge Brad Philips, Captain of the Decisive. …We soared to the absolute volcanic top with the Win of the prestigious Guatemalan Billfish Tournament. What a great way to start off the 2009 sport fishing season with a W. ….From a tournament perspective, the 40’ foot blue/black Gamefisherman hull marked DECISIVE must look like a threatening weapon to all on surface; but from down under, the Decisive is a fish raising nimble swan with Brad Philips at helm. Our wire guys, Kennedy and Danilo were at their absolute best during chaos moments when a marauding Billfish screams across the stern of the boat and their focused on a clean release. They understand the game, and play to win for their angler as well.

Bottom line – weather its tournament fishing or just recreational taking your family out for a day, its my feeling that the knowledge gained and conveyed from Captain Brad Philipps aboard the DECISIVE is absolutely the best at sea. …..Team Decisive was blessed and damn sure played to win. I venture to say that this team on this boat with this captain would be competitive in any sea of the world if you could get a bucket under us and pour us in.

If you want to learn how to catch billfish in extraordinary waters, call Captain Brad Philipps on the DECISIVE.

Cindy,

You are so genuine and it always feels like home.

Bob, Chester and I had a great time at the Billfish Inn. 33/47 is a phenomenal day by any standard. When you throw in a dozen Dorados that averaged 30+, it's mind boggling. Keep me posted on the fishing reports, hopefully I can duck down there one more time this season.

Capt. Brad and Mrs. Cindy,

I got to choose to go any where in the Wordland and I chose here. I am so happy I chose here; the hospitality is the best in the world.

Capt. Brad helped us catch 107 sailfish in only 3 days. The food is very good and everyone is so nice. I am only 11 years old but, I don't think I will find any place better than here at the Billfish Inn in Guatemala and the boat Decisive.

The crew is very good with Kennedy and Danilo, they are very patient.

“ A friend and myself were fortunate enough to make the long trip from South Africa to fish for 6 days with our good friends Brad and Cindy once again and what a super trip it turned out to be. We left the dock the first morning with high hopes for sailfish in good numbers, but the day started on a much higher note. We barely had baits in the water when there was the call “marlin, marlin” from the bridge. I managed to get the mackerel bait on the 50 pound rod in the water and as soon as it was in position a big dorsal broke the surface, the bait was swallowed and the circle hook performed perfectly when I tightened the line.
A beautiful blue marlin of about 550 pounds showed itself with some spectacular jumps and after a fight that lasted an hour, we released the feisty fish in perfect condition. That really set the tone for the rest of the trip as we ended off the day with 32 sailfish releases as well. We saw a few more marlin during the rest of the trip ending up with 2 marlin releases and 173 sailfish, not to mention the numerous dorado inbetween. All of this was cause for lots of celebration in the evenings, while Cindy’s meals have got even better since our last visit. After our trip I need a holiday to rest and will have to make a serious effort to get rid of the added pounds. Cindy your baked ice-cream desert was to die for. Thankyou Brad and Cindy for a wonderful 6 days that will stand out in my memory for a long time.”

“The great part of Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures is that they understand that sometimes not all come to fish. Of course the fishing is outstanding and the boat is fantastic, but for those fisherman that bring their nonfishing partners, Cindy and her staff knows how to take care of them as well. From the moment you walk thru the door where cold drinks welcome you after a long day of traveling, the staff attends to your every need. There are romantic evening dinners in the outdoor rancho with exquisite food and morning breakfasts with mimosas. Even on the boat you are pampered with fresh fruit snacks and a hot cooked meal, sometimes with the tuna or dolphin you just caught! And don’t miss an evening in the historic town of Antigua where you really get to experience the culture of Guatemala and can spend times in flavorfull local bars.

Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures definitely delivers the entire vacation package, for both the avid fisherman and those that come just to relax.”

WHAT AN EXTRAORDINARY THREE DAYS! My husband surprised me with this wonderful romantic getaway. He even was generous enough to allow me to catch all the billfish that Kennedy or Danilo (mates) hooked. With Brad, the 100 +lb sailfish were easier to reel in than the 10 lb dorado or bonito that we used as bait for marlin. The most experience fisherman will enjoy the professional efficiency of team Decisive and the most inexperience can find joy and SUCCESS!! Dear Cindy and Brad,

It was great spending time with you, especially meeting the newest crew member of the team, Darren, your lovely son. The Guatemalan fishery and the skill in the way you, Kennedy and Danilo fish, keeps blowing me away. I have fished 12 days with you guys over a span of 5 years and averaged 14 billfish each day! Last year we had Blues in the mix. This year, 27 Dorado and 38 Yellowfin, to go along with our 22 Sails. Again, the service could not be better and it was a welcomed break, to have every detail from when we arrived in Guatemala City to when we departed taken care of flawlessly. a grueling 30 minutes chasing him in reverse I get my first Blue Marlin on fly...a 275lb awesome battler...then 20 minutes later another Blue on a pitch bait....caught...and another few on spin...and a few dorado....all in 3 hours......this place DOES rock....enough said.!!!!

Cindy & Brad,
Having stayed at the Billfish Inn (7) previous visits, I need to comment on my past trip. Lori Hazel joined me for 4 days of fishing followed with 3 days touring Antigua. The fishing on the DECISIVE with Kennedy & Yefry was great as usual. The crew treated Lori like a true veteran. She had the pleasure of releasing 11 Sailfish plus several 25 plus pound Mahi Mahi. The fishing was followed by 3 days in Antigua.
Our trip was fabulous. Starting with our stay at the Billfish Inn, Lori enjoyed every minute. Meeting Kennedy and Yefri was special. Fishing with Brad is always a great experience, and the Billfish Inn staff made her feel so welcome. I will have a hard time coming to Guatemala in the future without her.
Antigua was wonderful. From arriving at the "Casa Santo Domingo Hotel", flowers, champagne, horse and carriage, dinner, and tour, you could not have arranged a more special 3 days for us. Lori and I fell in love with the country and the Guatemalan people. Everyone treated us so nice. It was a Valentine's Day I will never be able to duplicate.
The hotel room was unbelievable to both of us.
Cindy did a fabulous job arranging the trip. Antigua is a must for any visiting angler. The city is full of history, charm and romance. Thank you again for making our trip so special.
See you in April.

Well, as usual Brad was faster at getting an email out to you than me but I want to tell you myself how wonderful my first trip to Guatemala was. It was so much more than I ever expected. I have told my family and my best friend that they need to get their passports and book a trip. Last week was absolutely perfect in every sense of the word. I prayed for a safe trip and great weather and God certainly answered those prayers. It was such a pleasure to meet you and Brad and the whole staff at the Billfish Inn. Brad asked me to tell him what my favorite part of the trip was and I honestly could not tell him one specific thing because everything was perfect. Your facility, the fishing and feeling so welcome was beyond my expectations as I said earlier. The trip you helped Brad plan to Antigua for Valentines Day was something every girl dreams of. He really made me feel like a princess. The city and hotel were breath taking. Each of our guides were so pleasant and helpful. I will never be able to thank you enough. Once again, thank you for all that you did. I was so excited and it was better than I ever imagined. Oh yeah, it was great to catch my first Sail Fish also.

Fondly,

Cindy,
Just wanted to let you know that my sons had a great time there. Thou the fishing was a little slow for Guatemala standards it was still better than home. Ries and the crew did an excellent job taking care of us and Brad, Kennedy & Jeffery are always fun to fish with. I will be making reservations shortly for my next trip with you. My oldest son said it was like being at a 5 star resort. I am looking forward to my next trip.

Thanks very much for everything. The Billfish-INN is great, your cooking SPECTACULAR! I can wait to go back and have your black bean soup.

We had a great time, even when the fishing is considered slow for Guatemalan standards, it is better than any day of fishing in many other parts of the world.

I am attaching a few photos of the Tremco Boys for the memories.

Brad,

I will practice, practice, and practice with the 50! I will listen and get the hook up! Practice makes perfection. My hook up ratio will go up! I promise. Thank you for putting us on the fish. In my book a chance of hooking a 500lb Black Marlin, and 600 lb Blue Marlin the same day do not come by every day. Thanks for the many sails released. I actually lost count, when that happens you know that is a great day of fishing.
Say hello to the staff and Matdingo. They are a great part of the team. I can’t wait to see the DVD of the action.

Keep up the good work. ‘Til next time, Keep’em tight!

Cindy,

Thanks for the pictures! I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas looking forward to pictures and the DVD to augment my memories. Sara and I had a wonderful time. You are gracious, charming and beautiful, while managing a staff that was friendly and attentive. The Billfish Inn was comfortable and relaxing with everything we could want readily available. Your gourmet cooking was fantastic. The mariachi band and fellow guests were fun. I went to Guatemala to catch some sailfish on fly and got to do that but also so much more--- Five blue marlin in 3 days--- extraordinary. Extraordinary in every way! I'm looking at the dates for next year and will decide in the next day or so.

Cindy,

Thanks for the best total experience one could offer in Big Game Fishing. Every detail from when Anibal met us at the airport until our return was taken care of. You and Brad, coupled with your staff are excellent host. Having fished with Brad two previous trips and catching an amazing number of sails each trip made me think Brad might be one of the world's best big game captains. Getting to fish with Brad, when the "fishing was off," convinced me, he's the best. 10 Sails and 2 Blues, that works nicely anytime.

We are already working on the next trip. Until then, best wishes.

I have personally logged in over 3 dozen billfishing trips in my lifetime. I have to say that Captain Brad and his crew Kennedy and Jeffrey are hands down, the best of the best. Their expertise makes billfishing on the fly "look easy". Cindy is an absolute delight. She does a wonderful job of making the Billfish Inn a home away from home. She does everything in her power to make the most memorable experience for her guests. Leaving at the end of a trip with Cindy and Brad and their crew is always difficult.

Dear Cindy and Brad,

We eventually made it home at 1700hrs on Sunday after quite a stressful trip. OK until Joberg where we met my daughter and grandson who should have been back in UK by then but for reasons I won't bother you with had missed the plane on Friday. It was a bonus to see them even for only a couple of hours.
We stayed over and were dropped at the airport at 9am this morning only to find out that the Delta guy in Atlanta had torn out the voucher on my ticket to Richards Bay so I had no ticket home. We had to buy tickets to Durban where we were going to rent a car but fortunately we met a friend who gave us a lift to the house.
Not the way we would wish to finish what we both agree was the best holiday we have ever had. Thank you both so much and thank you Brad for the hooks and leader. I will have something to play with.
Look forward to maybe seeing you both soon,

Cindy & Brad:

What a fantastic trip! The hospitality was wonderful, the set-up you all have is fantastic and the fishing was great. Everyone had a wonderful time and we had a fun time in Antigua. We did take your recommendation and eat at the Fondue Real and Panza Verde, both were terrific.
The architecture in Antigua was incredible;
it was truly a remarkable place. We hired a tour guide on Thursday and then spent Friday on our own exploring several other areas. The "Casa Santo Domingo Hotel" was beautiful, we all really enjoyed ourselves and we got to see two weddings.

Last night we had some friends over and watched the DVD, tell Matt that was worth every penny. When you get to watch yourself fishing you realize what a blast you had. We also cracked up laughing at our Anniversary Party and the band, boy I will never forget that evening. Matt did a great job in filming me crying the whole time. There are no words to express how wonderful that evening was and what a great memory you made for both David and myself.
On the flight back to the US we met two guys who had fished and booked through Cabala’s. They had a terrible time, bad accommodations, a hotel room at Villas Del Pacifico, they were told it would be a condo but it was a hotel room. They said the food was ok and they released 3 fish during their 3 days of fishing! We told them, and showed them photos of what a great trip we had and I gave them a brochure. I told them they needed to give it another chance and stay with you all.
Now it is back to reality and work. As it stands now, we are all planning on coming back next year. We really did enjoy ourselves and thank you both for all of your help in planning the trip and hospitality.

Thanks you both

Your place is so wonderful and full of life. I felt very much at home. The food was more than outstanding as well as the service you and the girls provided. As you know between the two boats we
released 78 sailfish.
It was the most exciting fishing trip ever. I could not believe how accommodating the mates were, not to mention the hot cooked Cheese Burgers, Chicken Sandwiches and the fresh Dorado if you catch one. The lunch itself was to die for. Also the Santo Domingo Hotel was no doubt the most unique hotel I have ever stayed in. Tell
Brad he was right! I could have stayed in Antigua Guatemala several more days.

I would highly recommend a trip to the Billfish Inn for an event like a birthday or a celebration.

Cindy and her staff really took care of us in style.
On my brothers 40th birthday we caught 28 sailfish on the Decisive then had an lovely meal and drinks, a birthday cake and Mariachi band for an amazing unforgettable day.

Thank you Cindy and Brad for a wonderful experience.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable time fishing aboard the Pelagian with you, Carlos and Kennedy and learned a lot. Offshore fishing, particularly when billfish are the target, is a team sport. The proficiency of the team is far more important that the skill of any one part of the team, including the angler. You three work like a well-oiled machine and make it possible for an angler new to your cockpit to fall right into the rhythm. You make the angler look good and do it with such grace that he hardly knows its happening. That is a real talent.
Thank you for the addition information and for all the help you provided me to make the article interesting and informative. You were an excellent ambassador for Fins & Feathers and I which you lots of success with your new venture.

I hope to be able to return again soon to catch some more of those "small" (anything but small I tell you) Guatemalan sailfish. Thanks again for everything.

Hi Cindy & Brad -
We had an OUTSTANDING time! You run a first class operation and exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the opportunity to meet you and your staff, and, although the fishing was a bit "off" - did not diminish our great vacation at all. The Billfish Inn was delightful and charming, the meals were 5-Star quality, the extra touches show you care about customer service. Many thanks, again, for graciously allowing us to "host a dinner" for Bill's customers, who happened to be in the same area fishing at the same time - I know it will be an evening they will all remember with great fondness, too.
Antiqua was absolutely charming! We loved it. The suite at the Casa Santa Domingo was spectacular - we were enchanted by the entire place. We walked most of the day on Saturday and decided to pay a guide to give us the history. He gave us directions to the Meson Ponze Verde, so we could walk to dinner from the hotel, which we did. We also decided to walk back afterwards it was such a delightful evening and we did not feel uncomfortable doing that. Everyone was friendly and there were lots of people walking about, so it was a great way to "walk off" a really scrumptious meal. Great suggestion on the restaurant! One thing I wanted to tell you, we were a little late being able to check in (nearly 4:00 PM instead of 3:00 PM) - it seems that Mel Gibson was late checking out of "our room"!
Again, thank you very much for a memorable vacation and your gracious hospitality - we look forward to coming back - maybe next time we could add a few extra days to allow more time in Antiqua - there was so much more we wanted to see and do.

Look forward to seeing you, again!

Captain Jake Jordan's Comments
This letter is to recommend Captain Brad Philipps and Cindy Philipps as a couple which I believe to be of high character an honesty. I have fished for Billfish all over the world with many first class captains and crews however over the last 5 or 6 years of fishing with Brad aboard Pelagian, I have grown to believe that Brad is one of the top Billfish Captains that I have ever fished with.
As a Big Game angler for over 40 years and a Big Game fly fisherman with more than 500 Billfish releases, I have really grown to respect Brads boat handling skills, dynamic personality, and the ease with
which he shares his vast knowledge with his anglers.
I have operated my Sailfish School, a school in which we teach new fly anglers to catch Billfish on fly, out of Fins N. Feathers in Guatemala for the last 10 years. Brad has been my captain of choice for the last 5 years, and I plan to continue to use his services for as long as he continues in Guatemala.
I have known Cindy since she and Brad met and have done business with her for several years. She is smart, pleasant, and honest, and I look forward to having her as our host in Guatemala for my Sailfish Schools. Cindy and Brad, I wish you the best of luck in your new venture. Feel free to use my name and contact information as a reference to what a great job that you both do.
Warmest Regards,
Jake

Dear Brad and Cindy,

I want to thank you for the most memorable fishing trip to Guatemala. You have put together a very unique combination of world class fishing with world class hospitality.

This was my third trip to Guatemala and although I had great fishing the first two times, this far surpassed any expectations. The father vs. son teams were great fun.

The "old timers" fished aboard the Decisive with Brad and in three days of fishing we released 150 sailfish!
The "kids" fished aboard the Cañaso with Randolph and they had a respectable 71 releases. Not bad for a bunch of 14 year olds! That was a total of 221 releases for two boats in three days of fishing. Fantastic!

On the first day we had "only" 31 releases (the kids had 16). Day two challenged us with 95 bites and 65 releases (the kids released 35). That included 8 triplets and 14 doubles! Day three was "slower" with 79 bites and 54 releases. That day we had an unheard of 3 quadruplets! I can't wait to see the DVD and relive those hectic moments.

After the hard fishing we were greeted by Cindy with a cold drink at the door of the Billfish Inn. A nice swim in the pool to cool off and then a gourmet meal! The Billfish Inn was a welcomed surprise. The rooms were immaculate, the attention to detail was impressive and the service was seamless.

Congratulations on this unique combination and we will see you again in a couple of months.

Best regards,

Learning from Brad!
I fished there with 4 buddies on 3/4, 3/5, and 3/6 on the Pelagian and it was the experience of a lifetime for me.
I was the rookie on the team, uncertain of my saltwater angling ability, but Captain Brad did an excellent job of coaching all of us. Even the blue water veterans learned something. Brad's clearly a pro, passionate about fishing, and an asset to your organization. The boat, the captain, the crew, and the onshore facility were all better than I expected. Of course, the fish were hitting pretty good also. We went 61 of 109 on sailfish. On days 2 and 3 We hooked our own fish, which hurt our average a bit.
Clearly none of us were as skilled at getting the fish on the hook as the mates were; but Brad was very cool about it, told us what we needed to do to improve, and tolerated our negative impact to his catch numbers very graciously.
We also caught a few dorado - pic attached.
I've been home the better part of a month and I'm still fired up about this trip, and am looking forward to doing it again. It was a perfect reprieve from the frozen tundra of Wisconsin.
Best Regards -

"Having fished for over (25) years though out the world, I have truly experienced the best all around light tackle fishing venue of my life. Brad and Cindy Philipps owners of Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures provide quality lodging, food and world class fishing. In (8) fishing days our group released 264 sailfish including 30 on fly rod. The calm seas are any anglers delight. The Billfish Inn offers the best in accommodations. This program is a must for any angler seeking record numbers of billfish on conventional or fly tackle."

Anglers come from all over.....
I have crossed the pond from my home in London to fish with Brad and experience the hospitality of his lovely wife Cindy on a few occasions now.
Having known Brad and his commitment to anything he puts his mind to for the best part of 25 years now I know that this operation is going to be a resounding
success. If the good times he has shown my wife and Iin the past are any indication of how much fun this venture is going to be then I know that all of his clients will be booking their return trips before the last circle 7/0 hook has been removed from their final catch. Looking forward to seeing you soon and getting stuck into a few of those monster sails that grace your waters.

To Brad, Cindy and the entire Decisive Crew,

Thanks so much for one of the best fishing days of my life. In my travels I have visited some of the best fishing spots in the US, Caribbean, Central America and Mexico, but none of them compare to the action I had in Guatemala. The new boat is perfect, and Brad and boys really do it right, and have fun while doing it. I caught 10 sails on fly my first time doing it, a true testament to a great crew. Thanks so much, and I’ll be back soon.

Dear Brad:

As your inaugurating customer, allow me to compliment you, Cindy and your staff for developing the “comprehensive” trip. It has been my pleasure to travel to many destinations chasing Billfish and your offering is at the top of the list. This is obviously evident in that I have rebooked for 2007. The Decisive is perfect for the waters there, both bait and fly fishing. Your mates, Kennedy and Jeffrey, are pleasant and very professional. The planning of the Billfish Inn was impressive with wireless internet access, satellite television and internet telephone. Additionally, my dining experience was super. Your diving assistant, Anibal, had the vehicle immaculate and was on time and ready to go.

Hopefully my schedule will lighten up over the next couple of months and you will have available dates so that I might be able to return.
