Fishing Report - Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures - 6th October 2006

Fish Report - Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures - 6th October 2006

After an unreal 3 month trip back to Africa, we are back on the water and ready for the upcoming season. The boat has had it's yearly maintenance done, with engine tune-ups and generator overhaul. The bottom paint is fresh and the flag blue hull has been repainted with her name beautifully scripted on her sparkling new transom.

With the rainy season behind us and clear windless skies and a flat blue ocean, Friday the 5th was a perfect day to give the "Decisive" her first outing for the season. With my sister, Tamsin Philipps, visiting London and wife Cindy on board we not to be disappointed. We found magnificent blue water, birds and activity at 14 miles with some sailfishing out to 22 miles. Tamsin was rewarded with her first ever ocean caught fish, a sailfish of around 85lb's, which she dully released and followed up with another 2 in short order, as did Cindy and our other guest on board, Cindy's mother Margo. From there we pushed further offshore to see what the deeper waters were holding, and were graced with a nice 250lb blue marlin for Cindy which switched to the 20lb ballyhoo rigger bait after crashing the Moldcraft flatline teaser. Nice going on your first blue marlin Cindy and what a way to start our season, 6 from 12 on the sails and a blue one thrown in for good measure!!

We are off to Venezuela this coming week for fish the PCCA there with "Team Decisive's", Steve Cothron, Bill Easum and myserlf making up the three angler team, and will be back on the water in Guatemala soon there after.

After an amazing 1500 plus releases in the first 5 months of the year, and the unbelievably positive feedback we have been receiving from all quarters, as well as all the repeat bookings, we have doubled the size of our operation adding an identical second "Billfish Inn" right next door to our existing lodge, right on the private channel in the secluded gated communtiy in which we live, only minutes from the marina. So come on down and join us in Guatemala, for what has to be the worlds finest billfishing.

The reports will start to come on a more frequent basis now, so until the next report, we look forward to seeing you here. Tight lines and circle hooks for healthy releases.
